Deb's Garden

April

Now that the snow has finally melted, and the weather has finally warmed up, the Piliguamish Campground is coming to life. It seemed, for a while, it would never happen. But it has and the Skunk Cabbage is in bloom. A sure sign that spring is here. Next time you are up at the Pilly, take some time to explore the beauty around you.

Deb Large

June

Rain, beautiful rain. We needed it and it is welcomed by all of the trees, plants and flowers. Pilly is putting on its spring colors and they are beautiful.

Here are some samples from around the camp. If you recognize your sight, don't worry, I took the pictures from the road.

Dandelions

Ever eat a dandelion?  Many parts are edible. In fact, all parts of the common dandelion are edible. The flowers can be deep fried fresh, or dried and added to quick breads and muffins. The stems can be washed, used in a stir fry or a substitute for noodles, and the roots make a calming tea. Not only that, but the leaves make a very nutritious salad with a vinaigrette dressing.

So next time you see a dandelion, instead of seeing only a weed, you might want to look at it as a wild food.

Rhododendrons

You probably know that Rhodys are native to Washington State. In a plethora of colors (good word, huh) they light up the spring with blossoms from pale whites and yellows to deep dark purples and reds. Here is a sample of some of our park Rhododendrons.
